  • Infection Prevention and Control Guidelines for Health Care Facilities | Publications

    This comprehensive manual developed for health care facilities in the Kingdom of Cambodia describes the Ministry of Health's infection prevention and control policies and program and explains key infection prevention procedures, including handwashing, use of personal protective equipment, appropriate handling and sterilization of patient care equipment, environmental cleaning, prevention of needle-stick/sharp injuries, and appropriate management of healthcare waste.  It reviews additional precautions that should be taken for contact and airborne exposure to pathogens and discusses health care worker precautions to prevent occupational exposure.

    Specific infection control precautions to combat antibiotic resistance and infections with multi-drug resistant organisms are also addressed.  The manual describes specific safety practices for laboratory, pharmacy, operating room, emergency room and reception areas, intensive care unit, and neonatal ward.  Annexes detail procedures for preparing alcohol hand rub solutions and other disinfectant solutions, how to put on and take off personal protective equipment, and how to operate sterilization equipment.

  • Treating tuberculosis in the private sector: Cambodia | Publications

    While AIDS has taken the lead in terms of disease threat to humankind, tuberculosis (TB) remains a serious threat, especially where it attacks people with HIV/AIDS. This report presents 2003–2004 survey data of private sector TB practices in Cambodia so that decision-makers can move forward in ensuring proper case management of TB and stemming its spread while using precious resources effectively. This report provides a solid foundation both for improving the use and delivery of TB services in Cambodia and for measuring progress over time. (excerpt)
